Devin Nunes Must Go and Paul Ryan’s on Quicksand

March 28, 2017

By Karen

Paul Ryan probably gave his blessing for Congressman Devin Nunes (R-Calif.) to sabotage the House Intelligence Committee’s investigation of Donald Trump and his Russian connections. The first time Nunes spoke to reporters, he said he spoke with Ryan before skipping off to the White House to meet with Trump about what he learned from an unknown person with as-yet-unknown  information about surveillance of the Trump team.

See Nunes say it at minute 2:30 and repeat it at 8:29…

However, Nunes scrubbed the fact of meeting with Ryan from every statement he subsequently made as his account of his suspicious actions became increasingly murky upon repetition.

For some reason, everyone in the media except, apparently, Lawrence O’Donnell, missed the Ryan connection, and Ryan so far is keeping his skirts clean.

But all signs point to Ryan-Nunes collusion to protect Trump’s ass and scuttle the House investigation.

Nunes’ own committee members, whom he has treated like mushrooms — keeping in the dark and feeding shit — have had enough of it and are calling for Nunes to recuse himself because they can’t trust him.

Nunes served on Trump’s transition team when some of this Russian canoodling was going on, so Ryan never should have let Nunes have the reins in the first place, unless Ryan’s intent was always a sham investigation.

Nunes’ recusal isn’t enough now, nor should we trust any other congressional politician a with partisan axe to grind to uncover the truth. We need an independent investigation.

After all, they hired Ken Starr to investigate Bill Clinton’s icky stain on Monica Lewinsky’s blue dress, even though it was Clinton’s personal shame and had NOTHING to do with his ability to be president.

Yet now they hesitate when we know the president has deliberately surrounded himself with well-documented Russian tools like Michael Flynn and Paul Manafort, and they may all have been committing treason during and after the campaign. For all we know, Trump’s STILL profiting from his Russian connections. That’s why he won’t release his taxes.

It’s enough to make your head explode.

Trump tweeted maniacally about his Russian problem last night, trying to shift the spotlight to his favorite scapegoats, the Clintons. By now, all should recognize that he suffers from pathological projection. Whatever he knows himself to be guilty of, he accuses someone else of doing.

Now he’s living in abject terror of his Russian skeletons tumbling out of the closet at any minute while Putin watches, waits, and undoubtedly has a good laugh at Trump’s bumbling ineptitude.

Trump’s Revealing Behavior on Health Care

March 27, 2017

By Karen

Last week’s health care debacle highlighted Donald Trump as the quintessential man-baby. Now I think I know why Ivanka’s got an office in the West Wing. SOMEBODY’S got to change the diapers.

During the campaign, Trump claimed he would repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act on “Day One.” It would be easy. He had “something terrific” and cheaper in mind to cover everybody, and we’d all be very, very happy.

The fool didn’t realize he was describing the single-payer system Bernie Sanders advocates, also known as HR 676.

So why did Trump’s terrific idea never get mentioned last week? He offered NOTHING but vague, untrue promises, and even proclaimed at one point his amazement at how complicated health care is.

He was useless while Paul Ryan crafted an ACA replacement bill, and the result was disastrous. Had it passed and voters realized how deeply it shafted them, making health insurance drastically more expensive and doing nothing to improve medical care, they’d have descended en masse on Washington with torches and pitchforks, demanding heads.

Trump seemed oblivious to potential voter outrage that would surely sink him, if Russia doesn’t first.

Fortunately, congressional Republicans themselves balked. Some were repulsed by the bill’s inherent cruelty in stripping people of what coverage they now have, but others opposed the bill because it wasn’t backward-thinking and punishing enough.

While not having a clue as to what the bill meant, Trump spent a few days stamping his feet and demanding everyone vote for it because that’s what he wanted. If they didn’t, he’d do something mean to them. That’s his “art” of making deals.

Trump’s ignorance rendered him incapable of negotiating compromise on any point in the bill, and he changed no minds.

When his sheer bullying didn’t work, Trump dodged the humiliation of seeing the bill get crushed by having Ryan pull it before the vote and shelve it indefinitely.

With his now-expected spite, Trump immediately dismissed health care reform, saying he’ll let the ACA “explode.”

So much for his campaign promises to make his supporters’ lives better.

Instead of pouting, he could now try to correct the ACA’s deficiencies. Or, even better, he could roll out “Medicare for All,” the single-payer system he touted as a candidate. It’s already up and running, and redirecting the billions insurance companies now pocket as profit could finance its expansion.

Instead, Trump is letting insurers continue to be leeches, sucking subsidies from the government while charging people too much for high-deductible health insurance that pays for precious little medical care.

Trump’s an overgrown baby, grabbing at whatever shiny toy Steve Bannon dangles before him. Last week it was health care. This week, he’s on a tear to resurrect the coal industry by rolling back water protection and reviving air pollution because he thinks coal mines are neat.

Like any infant who hasn’t learned the concept of consequences, he’s making coal miners’ environment even deadlier while doing nothing to improve access to health care, and he thinks he’s doing them a favor.

Congress, Face Facts: Trump’s Unhinged

March 22, 2017

By Karen

While FBI Director James Comey gave damning testimony about Donald Trump’s delusion that Obama wiretapped Trump Tower, Trump couldn’t sit quietly in the wings. He inserted himself into the proceedings by live-tweeting.

Like idiots, the committee immediately read Trump’s ravings and tried to make sense of them. When will they learn that Trump’s tweets represent a petulant baby screaming for attention, and he’ll say anything to get it?

The legislative branch (and the media enabling it) need to be adults and tell Trump he’ll be neither seen nor heard until he’s capable of producing factual, coherent thoughts.

Now that Comey has become more threat than ally, don’t be surprised if Comey gets fired, just like Preet Bharara, the New York City U.S. Attorney Trump wanted to keep at first, but canned when watchdog groups requested investigations into Trump’s conflicts of interest.

Remember when Trump claimed he was so rich he didn’t need/want his $400,000 a year presidential salary? Another lie. He’s getting paid, claiming he’ll donate all to charity at year-end. Wouldn’t it be better to donate every payday so he can tweet about that? Instead, he’s giving himself a year’s float for max profits from investing the salary.

Another drain on taxpayers is Ivanka Trump’s new office in the West Wing. She also gets top security clearance. Why? Because, as an ordinary citizen with no diplomatic experience whatsoever, she must be present whenever Trump meets a head of state.

Can’t we just put a shade on Ivanka’s head and call her a lamp?

Trump, the psychopathic toddler, wreaks havoc every waking moment. He isn’t reforming healthcare, he’s letting Paul Ryan destroy it. Trump’s proposed budget is so spiteful, it’s like he’s personally out to screw every person who voted for him.

And helping Trump sow confusion and chaos is his oil-soaked secretary of state and Putin BFF, Rex Tillerson. Tillerson says he’s fine with a 28% budget cut to his gutted State Department because we’ll have “fewer military conflicts” in future.

Out of the other side of his mouth, Tillerson threatens military action against North Korea.

Trump is obsessed with having more Army men, tanks, and guns to play with, oblivious to the fact that the fortune he blows on pointless military buildup and his stupid border wall, to the exclusion of everything else, will bring down, from the inside out, the country he swore to serve.

You know what other country puts its military first while letting everything else go to hell and its people starve and die? North Korea.

Trump’s approval rating is 37%, yet he can still waste more taxpayer money jetting off to some ignorant pocket of this country where morons will cheer him.

When will they wise up? When black gunk flows from their water taps? When they can’t breathe the brown air? When they get cancer and the only hospital has closed — not that they could afford treatment, because the bulk of their income goes to useless health insurance that covers nothing?

Congress needs to subpoena 10 years of Trump’s tax returns. He’s so terrified of anyone seeing them, they must contain enough conflicts of interest and Russian ties to impeach him a dozen times over.

And once Trump’s ass is good and toasty, Putin can pile on his dirt from Trump’s 2013 Miss Universe Pageant visit to Moscow. It’s the last puzzle piece, and Trump will finally be exposed as even more vile than the bloated, arrogant pussy-grabber we already know he is.

Trump himself is leaving us no choice but to cut short his reign of ignorance and terror. What remains to be seen is how much more damage Congress will let the deranged man-baby inflict on us before it steps in and does the right thing.

Donald Trump Reveals His Black, Black Soul

August 1, 2016

By Karen

I stayed up late many more nights than I intended, watching the Republican and Democratic national conventions. The RNC was a riveting train wreck of D-list nobodies and has-beens willing to glom onto the Donald, culminating in Trump’s meandering, boastful, fear-inspiring, fact-free acceptance speech.

As for the Democrats, I wish they had stuck to Michelle Obama’s strategy the first night, which was, never mention Trump by name. To do so is to feed the malignant tumor that’s smothering this election.

But on the DNC’s last night, before Hillary Clinton gave her acceptance speech, a grieving Muslim father named Khirz Khan, accompanied by his wife, ripped Trump a new one for his many anti-Muslim rants. The Khans’ son was a captain in the U.S. Army in Iraq who died to save his fellow soldiers during an attack.

Trump’s response was unthinkable. He played the victim card, claiming Khan had “viciously attacked” HIM, and then went after Khan’s wife, implying that Ghazala Khan hadn’t spoken at the convention because she’s oppressed.

Trump was butt-hurt because Khan hit a nerve saying that Trump “has sacrificed nothing and no one.” We’ve seen not even a whiff of military or public service in Trump’s whole family.

Trump responded to ABC’s George Stephenopoulos with: “I think I’ve made a lot of sacrifices. I work very, very hard. I’ve created thousands and thousands of jobs, tens of thousands of jobs, built great structures. I’ve had tremendous success. I think I’ve done a lot.”

The man is so blinded by his own sense of entitlement, he has no clue what a “sacrifice” is.

Hillary got a bump in the polls to be in the lead again, but how on earth is ANYBODY in this country still thinking Trump, a lunatic with delusions of persecution and the habit of blindly striking back against every perceived slight, is fit to govern a country?

In what’s become their new daily routine, Paul Ryan and Mitch McConnell weakly repudiated Trump’s latest bullshit. They seem blissfully unaware that the fence they straddle is picket, and that Trump will say whatever it takes to impale their balls on it. With glee.

John McCain, with his own re-election on the line, denounced Trump in no uncertain terms. For once.

Mr. Khan appeared on Meet the Press over the weekend and expounded a bit on the anti-Trump sentiments Hillary actually asked him to delete from his speech, as well as his belief that Trump’s reaction to it indicates that Trump is utterly lacking in empathy and has a “black soul.”

Trump has shown it to us himself. How much more proof does anyone need?

BONUS: For anyone undecided about Trump, this article in The New Yorker is required reading. It’s about Tony Schwartz, the man who really wrote Trump’s book, The Art of the Deal. (Yes, he did. Trump even put his name on the cover.)

The GOP Has Trumped Itself

June 8, 2016

By Karen

Paul Ryan abandoned integrity and decency when he caved to Donald Trump’s candidacy, losing the right to denounce any new outrage that comes out of Trump’s mouth. Trump has been vile since the very beginning, yet Republicans endorsed him anyway. What leverage do they have now to change him? None.

If Ryan, McConnell & Co. are willing to seize control of the White House using a nut job who hides his baldness under a ginger ferret and wears the rust from his own mental disintegration on his face, they will sink the GOP beyond redemption.

Under a President Trump, we might see mass deportations and internment camps (à la the Japanese during World War II) for anybody he finds offensive — Hispanics, blacks, Muslims, women, journalists, judges, fellow Republicans who oppose him. The world will be forced to live under the threat of nuclear war because he thinks the U.S. needs to lead by being more unpredictable.

Our legislative and judicial branches of government will have to devote themselves to keeping Trump from destroying the world. They’ll recall their years of relentless Obama obstructionism as the Gentle Times. Trump will use the presidency only to stroke his ego, while his supporters and the rest of us watch the country fall apart from his neglect.

It’s astounding that anybody can listen to Trump for five minutes and not see a tyrant in the making. No other presidential candidate in history has ever campaigned on a constant barrage of taunts and threats against everyone who crosses his field of vision.

I believe we’re seeing a man who stands on the brink of full-fledged dementia, and his staffers are keeping silent out of sheer terror. But if he loses, the truth will come out before Hillary’s inauguration.

Trump is the worst sort of mentally unstable, narcissistic opportunist, appealing to the worst in those he maniacally thinks will constitute a majority he can exploit. His followers are desperate for a messiah; they’re not picky about who it is. Every time Trump pulls off another unspeakable, hateful diatribe without facing any real consequences, they’re more convinced he’s larger than life. And if they help him get what he wants, he’ll eat their souls for breakfast and pick his teeth with their bones.

Trump is a wannabe despot who aspires to degrade, deport, torture, and nuke as many people as he can in his impossible quest to satisfy his insatiable insecurity. Behind all his bluster, he’s the ultimate no-class loser.

Donald Trump doesn’t want to make America great again. He wants to make America, and the world, his bitch — just to prove to himself that he’s man enough to do it.

Obama’s Second-Term Theme: Enough is Enough

January 30, 2013

By Cole

If you were disappointed by President Obama’s first term, you had to love his second inaugural speech, where he focused on fixing what ails THIS country. He made scant mention of foreign policy or matters most dear to Republicans — namely, screwing anyone who isn’t rich and white.

Michelle was kind enough to toss Boehner & Co. a symbolic bone by dressing both the kids in purple.

After the ceremony, John McCain whined, “I would have liked to see some outreach.”

Yeah, for what? So you could spit on Obama’s extended hand and turn your back on him again?

Now that he has no more elections to win, Obama seems fresh out of cheeks to turn with Republicans. They seem to get the message.

Or perhaps a few Republicans heard about the recent Public Policy Polling survey where people ranked the 112th Congress below head lice, cockroaches, and colonoscopies, among other odious things.

Or maybe they got embarrassed watching themselves trying to rip Hillary Clinton a new one over the September attack on the Libyan Embassy. Beating Hillary over the head with the corpses of 4 murdered Americans for political show was exactly what we’ve come to expect of them. It was predictably pointless and disgusting and had Hillary exasperated.

Obama’s new calls for gun control, immigration reform, and gay rights have got the Republicans scurrying for cover, and led their standard-bearers, like vice presidential loser, Paul “Lyin’” Ryan, to tell his cronies they’d better start “picking their fights.”

In so many words, they’re admitting they’ve been hell-bent on sinking Obama just for spite, no matter what a mess they made of the country.

Isn’t that called treason?

This week, they’re allowing progress on immigration, and are letting women go in to combat.

Even the Boy Scouts are pulling their heads out of their asses to consider co-existence with gays (which they’ve probably been doing all along, just refusing to acknowledge).

Mitt Romney’s 3-million vote defeat proved that backward, conservative thinking is not the country’s preference. We hope Obama and Biden continue to drag Republicans into the 21st century.

Republicans Refuse to Leave La-La Land

November 15, 2012

By Cole

From the depths of his election-loss funk, Mitt Romney emerged for a conference call with wealthy donors who squandered big bucks on him and explained that Obama won because he gave so many “gifts” to young people, blacks, women, and Hispanics during his first term.

In RomneyWorld, any act that could give a non-millionaire a little financial relief or healthcare security is a “gift.”

If there’s any lingering doubt that Romney would have presided over the ritual rape and pillaging of the “have nots” so his fellow “haves” could have even more, this should erase it.

According to Romney, if you’re not rich, you deserve NOTHING. You’re a MOOCH.

It’s amazing Romney didn’t include the elderly on Obama’s gift list.

Oh, wait… wasn’t it George W. Bush who closed the donut hole on Medicare prescription drugs for them without having any way to pay for it?

Can’t go there.

And Romney’s faithful running mate, Lyin’ Paul Ryan, has been regretting that Obama got so much support in the most densely populated areas of the country — where the people are.

If cows and cornstalks could vote, Ryan would certainly be VP-elect now.

GOP denial began with Karl Rove’s meltdown election night when Ohio went to Obama. It was like Rove knew the voting there was rigged in Romney’s favor.

And John McCain, in what increasingly appears to be the onset of dementia, has been tottering through the morning shows, still blaming Obama for the attack on the Libyan Embassy and using it as an excuse to reject Susan Rice as the next Secretary of State. Like either of them had any direct control or knowledge on any of it.

Even though decisively defeated, Republicans are making it clear they have NO intention of pulling their heads from their asses and moving on with business. They want the world to see that their hatred of black cats and people of modest means runs really deep.

We should thank the 3.5 MILLION voters who denied Romney the Oval Office, because every time Romney opens his mouth, he still proves they did the right thing.

Rock’em Sock’em Joe Biden

October 12, 2012

By Cole

FINALLY, a Democrat had the courage to stop a Republican in mid-lie and distortion — 82 times in 90 minutes, the pundits counted.

Joe Biden’s VP debate with Paul Ryan was everything the first Obama-Romney debate was not. Biden actually laughed at Ryan’s persistent attempts to con American voters into buying the notion of a conservative middle-class low-tax Utopia that neither Ryan nor Romney themselves believe in.

Sure, today the opposition is crawling all over Biden for saying the White House was unaware that our embassy in Libya had asked for more security before it was attacked by terrorists on September 11.

Republicans, with their selective memory, like to think Democrats have a lock on massive intelligence failures.

At least when Obama doesn’t get the message, he doesn’t declare war on a different country, like dear old George W. Bush did after ignoring repeated warnings that Osama bin Laden was planning to attack us. Bush’s response was to fixate on Saddam Hussein and destroy Iraq, which had nothing to do with it.

To steal a choice phrase from Virginia’s former Republican governor, George Allen, Joe Biden came as close to shoving most of Paul Ryan’s misconceptions back “down his whiny throat” as anybody’s ever likely to get.

And it felt good. Real good.

To Ryan’s credit, he never backed down. Like a well-trained pit bull, he kept spouting the party’s worn-out lies and fact-free promises like he believes them. And he probably does.

Let’s hope Obama can maintain the momentum on October 16 in his foreign policy debate with Romney. It’s got potential as an easy slam-dunk, since Romney has already gone out of his way to piss off China (“cheaters”) and Russia (“our No. 1 geopolitical foe”), and talks like he’s itching for war with Iran and Syria.

GOP Convention: A Confederacy of Dunces

August 30, 2012

By Cole

The glassy-eyed, brain-dead fanatics on the floor of the Republican convention fascinate me. To see them gobble every crumb of verbal crap dispensed from the podium is like watching lemmings wolf down a last meal before they go off a cliff.

They have no idea that every one of them who isn’t a white male millionaire is in for a royal screwing if they get their wish and Romney wins.

In a cynical attempt to seem inclusive that fooled nobody, the GOP assigned U.S. possessions like Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, and American Samoa prime seats because their delegations look racially diverse — even though THEIR VOTES DON’T COUNT.

Ann Romney got to address the 32 percent of voters who, in a CBS News poll, claim they don’t know Mitt enough to form an opinion. She delivered a brilliant speech that made her fellow Stepford Wives mist over, and we learned that Mitt was a cutie in high school, but virtually nothing of substance beyond that.

To listen to Ann’s litany of lovingly empty claims…

  • Mitt loves his country (but not enough to stop dodging taxes)
  • Mitt won’t let you down (unless he does — he’s prone to change his mind a lot)
  • Mitt will get the job done (if he doesn’t eliminate or outsource it)

…was to stuff cotton candy in your ears.

New Jersey Governor Chris Christie’s keynote address showcased him to the country as a pompous gasbag with life-threatening eating issues who probably won’t survive to run for president in 2020 if Romney wins and serves 2 terms.

They’re saying Condoleezza Rice’s rousing speech — and the only one to acknowledge the importance of education — will win her a seat in Romney’s cabinet. Let’s hope it’s his china cabinet back at Lake Winnipesaukee.

ALL of them have erased the George W. Bush years off the slate. They’re in total denial that the ruinous ideology Bush lived by, and they still embrace, started this country’s flush down the toilet.

And then they have the bloody nerve to accuse Obama of failing to stop it when all they want to do is KEEP FLUSHING.

But by far, the whopper topper was Paul Ryan’s Obama-bashing marathon. It was so jam-packed with deceit and deception, Karen could barely stop screaming at the TV. I won’t rehash it because a Fox News writer named Sally Kohn did it so well.

You know your lies have jumped the shark when even Faux News is crying foul.

From now until election day, the Republican strategy is to continue repeating the same thoroughly discredited lies (such as, Obama has eliminated the work requirement from welfare) and hope enough stupid, unquestioning voters believe them.

Tonight Romney’s got to pull off the grand deception of seeming like a credible, affable, empathetic, and competent man with a plan.

After his department-store-dummy reaction while Chris Christie was heaping praise on him like whipped cream on a banana split, I don’t think Romney’s got a prayer — or a clue.

Todd Akin Exposes the American Taliban

August 22, 2012

By Adele

Republicans have made it official: Their platform decrees that EVERY man’s sperm is sacred, including rapists’. If a woman is brutally violated and becomes pregnant, she should have no right to seek an abortion.

What will Republicans think of next — stoning to death women they suspect of adultery?

Missouri Congressman (and Senator wannabe) Todd Akin revealed the logic behind this Republican misogyny.

During a TV interview in St. Louis, Akin calmly and clearly explained how he learned from doctors that woman have a biological mechanism to “shut down” fertilization and avoid pregnancy when they are “legitimately” raped.

Democratic disgust was immediate. Republicans are fuming over having their deeply-rooted ignorance verbalized.

So Akin has apologized for using “the wrong words” and pretends to agree that all rapes are bad.

I think Akin’s only regret is being rightfully called out as a dumbass. He refuses to drop out of the race to unseat Democratic Senator Claire McCaskill. Let’s hope sensible Missouri women do the right thing and crush Akin at the polls.

Since Akin specified “legitimate” (which he now says meant “forcible”) rape, what would he and his ilk consider “illegitimate” rape…

  • A woman trying to escape a control-freak husband, who stalks and assaults her as “just punishment?”
  • A woman who wears a tight, low-cut outfit into a bar and ends up gang-banged on a pool table because “she asked for it?”
  • A little girl who doesn’t move or scream when Daddy climbs into her bed to teach her “how to be a woman?”

Romney’s trying to “distance” himself from Akin’s words, but his running mate Paul Ryan has worked with Akin in Congress on legislation to reproductively hog-tie women permanently.

Paul Ryan believes women should only have abortions if their lives are in danger, but they deserve to bear lifelong consequences for rape or incest.

Akin’s now saying he should continue in the Senate race because he misspoke “one word in one sentence in one day.”

WHICH WORD, TODD? YOUR WHOLE STATEMENT WAS INACCURATE!

Obviously, he still doesn’t get it. And prominent Republicans can pooh-pooh Akin all they want, but their actions — trying to make abortion and birth control crimes, forcing pregnant women to have unnecessary ultrasounds in Virginia — speak louder than words.

They just don’t like any one of their own to admit it.
