Cats Working on Temporary Hiatus

By Karen

Letting you know that things have gone quiet here because my mother has been in the hospital since January 18. The family has been taking it one day at a time, having lots of phone calls with family and friends and making hospital visits as often as possible under COVID restrictions.

Respecting my mother’s privacy, I don’t want to share any further details except to say she wasn’t admitted for COVID.

We’ll be back as soon as we can.

  2. Donna says:

Karen I am so sorry to hear this. I’m sending love and light

  3. catsworking says:

Leah and Donna, thank you so much. This is the first time she’s ever been involuntarily hospitalized for something serious (in 84 years, miraculously enough). She’s not taking it too well and we’re all doing the best we can to help her get better.

  4. GlamourMilk says:

Sorry to hear about your mother. I wish her – and the rest of the family – all the best.

Been there, done that. Hoping all ends well, but don’t forget to take care of yourself during this time as well. It is so easy to let that slip, I went through this with each of my parents. Total bummer we’ve got extra crap from covid to complicate it for you all.

  6. catsworking says:

feijicha and Glamour, thank you. Yesterday they moved her to the floor where they keep all the COVID patients and they’re right down the hall.

I’m doing OK, meditating every morning and trying to get plenty of sleep. My sister and I are alternating visits. If we could just get over the hump of my mother’s negative attitude, it would be a lot smoother sailing.

  7. Corinna says:

Wishing your mum a speedy recovery. Do take care of yourselves . Peace and love for 2022 .

  8. Mary Hunter says:

Karen, so sorry for your mother and good hopes for a recovery. Hopes for the best.

  9. Bonnie C. says:

Sorry to hear that Karen, & hope mom is on the mend soon.

  10. catsworking says:

Corinna, Bonnie and Mary, thank you for the kind words. My mother had surgery Wednesday last week and we’re still waiting to hear any results from that. Meanwhile, she’s recovering very slowly and being uncooperative. Yesterday we did get her to sit in a chair for the first time and she brushed her teeth, so that was a huge advance.

So sorry Karen, am sure it’s a stressful time – hoping she recovers quickly. Take care of yourself, too.

  12. Bob says:

So sorry to hear your mom is doing poorly.
Sending hugs and catnip for the kitties.

  13. Cynthia Del Buono says:

Hope all is well with your mom, Karen.
Keep her in my prayers for a healthy recovery.

  14. Anita says:

Karen, sending hugs to you and your family. Hope your Mom is feeling better soon.

Anita, Cindy, Bob, and bassgirl, thanks so much. My father went to see her this morning and had some good news. She’s starting to eat. Last night some chicken broth, today orange Jell-O and Italian ice. All she ate the whole of last week was not quite half a nasty, naked, dry turkey sandwich. The hospital’s food is beyond gross.

We’re waiting for test results from the surgery she had on the 19th.

Her orange tabby (and Roc’s girlfriend) Tater seems to be taking it pretty well, although my father says she’s taken to following him around the house.
