Impeachment Conviction is Too Gentle for Trump

By Karen

I have but one regret about this second impeachment of Donald Trump for incitement of insurrection: That, if he’s convicted, it doesn’t come with a bonus sentence of eternity in prison and a daily torture session.

Consigning Trump to history as the only twice-impeached president is meaningless because he doesn’t do humiliation, and he’ll be dead anyway. Disqualifying him from running from office again is moot because he has no intention of doing it. He just wants to grift campaign donations.

I want to see Trump pay in actual physical suffering, which is a consequence he’s never faced before. I want to see him broken and whimpering, as he fondly says, “like a dog.”

The House impeachment managers have been doing a masterful job of weaving myriad pieces of January 6 together to give us a heretofore unseen and unheard montage of the hours of vicious horror Trump’s screaming scum inflicted on the Capitol.

I imagine many Trumpers who were there that day are watching raptly to see if they get any screen time. And I wonder if — unlike their enablers Cruz and Hawley in the Senate — they feel the teeniest bit of shame. They ALL let themselves be conned, and possibly killed, just to help Trump realize his fondest fantasy of seeing Americans sacrifice their lives to his glory.

Maybe the rioters will get it when they hear the FBI knocking on their doors.

Lindsey Graham has deemed the videos “offensive” and “absurd.” He actually thinks his colleagues seeing hard evidence of how close they all came to being torn apart by the mob will inspire more “not guilty” votes for Trump.

It makes you wonder what crackerjack defense Lindsey thinks Trump’s team will pull out of their asses tomorrow when they show up for Act Two of Tuesday’s babbling freak show that defended nothing.

Obviously, Graham was lying his prissy little pants off when he took this oath before the trial began…

“I solemnly swear (or affirm, as the case may be,) that in all things appertaining to the trial of the impeachment of Donald J. Trump, now pending, I will do impartial justice according to the Constitution and laws: so help me God.”

If their votes two days ago against the constitutionality of the trial is any indication, 44 Republican senators may still be determined to march in lockstep with Trump all the way to hell, with Lady Lindsey as lead drum majorette.

I don’t know how anyone watching this trial, especially those who were in the Capitol on January 6, can conclude that Trump isn’t steeped in insurrection and blood. Any senators who vote “Not Guilty” (Translation: the riot was no big deal and Trump is blameless because his incitement is protected speech) deserve to be cast out of Congress immediately for spitting on every oath they have ever taken to uphold the Constitution.

Karen, it is amazing if 17 Republicans will let him off, but then, they want to have a future in politics. However, I doubt many will vote for any of them next time. And anyway, if the American population remember any of this in four years, they will most likely vote for the Democrats.
I think you are right that Trump will only campaign again to get the campaign donations, but his stupid supporters can’t see it.
The impeachment managers did a really good job laying out all the evidence, I was very impressed with them all.
There’s just one thing I don’t understand… why is Trump not going to prison if he gets convicted? That’s where he belongs!

Randi, an impeachment trial isn’t a real court case, but just a way for Congress to say a president has been naughty. They can vote to remove him and to prohibit him from ever holding office again, but there’s no criminal penalty like prison.

On the other hand, I did hear some talking head say that Trump could be criminally charged later by the district attorney in Washington for inciting a riot.

Trump is now being investigated criminally in Georgia for threatening officials there to “find” votes to make him win the state, but even if he’s convicted, I think the prison time is only one year.

I’m watching Trump’s defense right now, and they’re talking about everything BUT what Trump did. They’ve been showing 20-year-old video of Democrats saying the word “fight,” as if that means anything. They’re blaming the rioters, Black Lives Matter, everybody but Trump.

In the defense’s eyes, Trump is a poor innocent little victim who said NOTHING wrong — EVER. He’s being picked on by Democrats who are “filled with hate.”

What they’re saying is filling me with hate. I’d like to kick all of their teeth in for their lies.

But this will give the Republican cowards a little wisp of reason to let Trump off the hook and acquit him. I don’t know how those bastards live with themselves.

Mitch McConnell’s wife was on Trump’s Cabinet, and she resigned right after the riot, and her resignation clearly said the riot was the reason she quit.

Yet, it’s looking like McConnell will vote to acquit Trump, essentially telling his wife she was an idiot to quit because Trump trying to kill her husband while he was in the Capitol building was no big deal and Trump didn’t do anything wrong. That’s how SICK they are.

When I saw the defense showing videos of when the Dems used the the word “fight,” I wondered how far back they had been digging. They even repeated some clips. They should certainly not blame the Dems for editing videos, that’s exactly what they did themselves!! Crooks, all of them!
Whether he is convicted or not, I hope someone will get him! There are pages and pages of crimes to choose from – enough to spend the rest of his life in prison!

  4. Randi says:

And Trump didn’t do anything for hours to stop the rioters in the Capitol, I bet he thoroughly enjoyed it! Later he said to them… We love you, you are so special! If that isn’t approval, I don’t know what is!
Put up that gallows again and hang him!

  5. catsworking says:

Randi, that “fight” video they put together was so edited, it didn’t show that the Democrats were talking about fighting for dozens of different things that had absolutely nothing to do with Trump and predated him by many years, like “fight for health care,” “fight for equality,” “fight for fair wages,” etc. It was totally nonsensical. They painted it like Democrats were saying they would fight TRUMP as far back as 20 years ago! (One clip was of Nancy Pelosi back in 2001, I think.)

They wanted to make it look like Democrats have been bloodthirsty and violent all along, and poor Republicans have been peaceful little angels.

They really harped on Elizabeth Warren video from when she was running for president last year. Her whole campaign was built on “I’m a fighter and I will fight for you,” and she said it in every speech. Anybody who saw the Warren campaign knows how totally ridiculous that was.

I took a little nap with Roc, and when we woke up, the defense had already finished! It only took them about three hours because they’ve got nothing.

Trump telling the rioters that they were special and he loved them WHILE they were in the Capitol trying to find Mike Pence so they could hang him should send Trump to prison for years, but sadly we will have to convict him on something else in state criminal courts. Once the impeachment is over, I think it will become open season on Trump for all his other crimes.

With luck, the state investigators will be doing after Trump’s criminal kids, too.

  7. MorganLF says:

Yes the pig once again made it through.

There is a serious retribution heading his way as he continues to grift off of republiKlan donors. The kind only a higher power can confer.

He’s what he’s ALWAYS been pussy, fake, coward, con.
It’s his supporters that are the problem they’ll be around long time, oh hell they were always there, always will be.

Stupid monosyllabic white supremacists. That’s the USA.

If you believe in such things, there’s an agony of eternity waiting for him

    Small consolation….

  8. catsworking says:

Morgan, I picture a pit of fire in hell big enough to fit every Republican traitor who ignored the slam-dunk proof that Trump tried to overthrow the government and gave it their blessing. They violated the oath they took FOR THE TRIAL and as senators and should all be expelled from Congress, but since the Democrats do nothing but whine and let the scum run the show, that won’t happen.

As McConnell had the nerve to stand there after the vote and claim he couldn’t convict Trump because he was no longer president, knowing full well he himself made that the case, I wished for him to be struck dead on the spot. All of Trump’s devoted blowjobbers. The next time they find themselves chased by an angry mob, because that’s something they enjoy and want Trump to incite more of, I hope the mob beats them to death with Trump flags and tears them to bits, then hangs the pieces.
