Bill Clinton’s 100 Percent Correct on Obamacare

By Karen

Bill Clinton’s catching hell for calling a certain aspect of the Affordable Care Act — NOT the whole program, mind you — “the craziest thing in the world.” And this is what he said (quotes taken from CNN)…

“But there is a group of people — mostly small business owners and employees — who make just a little too much money to qualify for Medicaid expansion or for the tax incentives who can’t get affordable health insurance premiums in a lot of places. And the reason is they’re not in big pools,” Clinton said. “So they have no bargaining power.”

“So you’ve got this crazy system where all of a sudden 25 million more people have health care and then the people who are out there busting it, sometimes 60 hours a week, wind up with their premiums doubled and their coverage cut in half. It’s the craziest thing in the world,” Clinton said.

I’m EXACTLY who he’s talking about. I’m a sole proprietor with individual health insurance, and I earn a little too much to qualify for any subsidy from the ACA.

In the past two years, my premium has gone up 52%. I’m still three years short of qualifying for Medicare, so I just dug into savings and paid off my mortgage because I fully expect my health insurance premium to become so crushing, I won’t be able to continue paying both.

Trump, of course, is cherry-picking Clinton’s statements as agreement with Republicans. That’s because Trump doesn’t have a clue what he’s talking about. All Trump’s said is he’d replace Obamacare with “something terrific.”

But Bill Clinton is spot-on about the ACA’s biggest weakness. I thank him for bringing it into the conversation.

Hillary favors adding a “public option,” but as long as greedy private insurers continue to gorge themselves at this trough, raising premiums AND collecting government subsidies, Americans will continue being screwed while having unaffordable access to healthcare.

The ONLY solution is a single-payer system — Medicare for all — with EVERYONE (including employers if they keep offering coverage to employees) paying into one central, not-for-profit pot. Done right, it would eliminate copays and deductibles. These are the additional costs that become deal-breakers when piled onto already-high premiums.

We’d ALL come out ahead in the long run.

I LIVE IN KANSAS. NO coverage. Have to pay 300 DOLLARS this year and 600 next year, for no insurance. Healthcare.guv offers me nothing.

Welcome, Debra! Yes, paying a penalty and getting nothing in return is robbery, pure and simple. But it helps to finance all the people who qualify for subsidies and get healthcare for about $30 a month, thanks to what we contribute in penalties and through income taxes.

Virginia was Republican-run when the ACA went down and wanted nothing to do with it. We left millions in federal funds on the table rather than expand Medicaid. Anthem continues to have a stranglehold on the individual market, and they can hike premiums sky-high and nobody ever questions it.

The other side of this coin is people who start out unemployed or in some dire straits and get the cheap insurance, only to find a job and be socked at year-end with PAYING BACK most or all of the subsidy they received. They have no way to foresee this financial crisis because they don’t know if/when they’ll find work. So while they get back on their feet financially with a new paycheck, they’re also saddled with a huge insurance bill to repay.

I think Obama did this with the long game in mind. He was initially in favor of single payer. But he knew the situation had to become absolutely unsustainable and have millions of people screaming for relief before politicians would consider Medicare for all.

Can you imagine that fat orange stubb walking by and grabbing your privates? Ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww. He’s so old fat and gross and was when the comments were made. And the creepy Billy Bush egging him on. Grown man who goes by Billy…yeccch. I smell pervert.
No apology just a mention of Bill Clinton doing worse.
    Bye bye creepy.

Access Hollywood, which got that interview with Trump, did a full segment tonight and had its female anchor play it, giving all the context and the witnesses who heard him say it so there would be absolutely no misunderstanding the he was tricked or trapped.

Trump has come back saying it was “locker room talk” and that Bill Clinton has said a lot worse to Trump on the golf course.

OK, so now we have a presidential candidate who talks foully about women behind our and his wife’s back. That should really help him with the female vote — not.

  5. MorganLF says:

Like a Twitter comment I saw. “This only confirms he also speaks foully on the golf course about women”.

The crudeness of an old man who has publicly leered at his own daughter speaking so foul…and you know me, I am very frank an raunchy as I wanna be and not easily shocked. But this from a “man” who presumes to be my president?

And that creepy attaboy Billy Bush egging him on. I bet Wee Willies wife is sooo proud. Well I guess one way or the other a Bush will be the downfall of Trump.

Just watched Maddow and it seems that this incident may spell the end of Trump, whether he drops out or not. He’s supposed to be in debate prep all day tomorrow because Paul Ryan refused to be seen with him at a planned event. Debate a town hall where he won’t have a podium to hide behind. He’ll have to answer to ordinary little people, which he has never done well. Will be fun to watch Hillary mop the stage with him.
