Iran Thinks Virginia Punishment is Nuts

By Yul

You should know something’s seriously wrong when a self-proclaimed “enlightened” country like Iran, which still believes in blood-thirsty forms of retribution, thinks Virginia’s judicial system is hypocritical.

The reason is Teresa Lewis, who’s now 41 and reportedly has an IQ in the 70s. She allegedly conspired with her lover and his friend in 2002 to kill her 51-year-old husband and 25-year-old stepson for insurance money. The men got life sentences for doing the shooting; Lewis is scheduled to die by lethal injection tomorrow night. The first woman executed in Virginia in 98 years.

Another case this week involved a 21-year-old punk named Sam McCroskey who came to Virginia from California to meet a 16-year-old girl he met online. When she didn’t live up to his fantasies, he bludgeoned her, her girlfriend, and her mother to death while they slept, then stayed in the house for 2 days with the bloody corpses and beat the girl’s father to death when he showed up. The police nabbed McCroskey in the airport, waiting for a flight back to California.

For pleading guilty to the 4 brutal murders, McCroskey just got life in prison.

Can you see why the Iranians are confused?

Virginia’s Governor McDonnell has refused to grant clemency to Teresa Lewis. It seems to me that she deserves either life in prison so she can become a lifetime burden on taxpayers like all the men who actually did kill people, or they should ALL be executed. The sooner the better.

Whoa! That is a revoltin’ development, huh? The McCrosky guy is total scum who should get the death penalty. With the woman, I guess as in Texas, IQ doesn’t matter (as in governors–reps–senators– presidents. Sorry, but tis true!) or degree of retardation, as long as the person knew how to kill. It’s a hard decision, but Mom has always said the death penalty can never be a deterent if it’s not used!

And I totally missed mentioning the guys involved with this shooting should get the death penalty too. This is like the incident that inspired the film “Let ‘Em Have It!” where in 1952 England a 16-year-old, Chris, killed a cop with a gun and his 19-year-old epileptic and mentally deficient friend, Derek, were found guilty of murder. Because the 19-year-old yelled “Let him have it!” the jury and judge believed he yelled it to murder the policeman, but he had yelled it for the shooter, Chris, to give up the gun. So even though public protest, attempts at clemency and recinding were made, and an attempt to appeal to the House of Commons, Derek, was hung at the gallows in the prison, while Chris got a reduced sentence for good behavior, was released, and was a law-abiding citizen ever since.

Tuxi, I’ve never seen that movie, but what a terrible story!

In this morning’s paper, I learned a little more about Teresa Lewis. (Her execution is still scheduled for tonight, BTW, unless the Supreme court happens to step in and grant her a stay.) Apparently, she remained in the kitchen of her trailer while her boyfriend and the other guy blew away her husband and adult stepson with multiple shotgun blasts, when waited 45 minutes to call the police while her husband died. I guess that’s why the jury went tough on her.

But I still don’t get why guys who carry out these killings get off with life. If anybody needs killing to make the world a better place, it’s that McCroskey. He makes Joran van der Sloot look like a Boy Scout.

I don’t understand that either. Mom said as a kid, she always heard the *eye for an eye* verse when relatives talked about a murder case. She said anyone who takes a life should pay with their own. Some of the Bible thumpers say they don’t believe in capitol punishment, but what good does it do to have to pay for a lifetime of these guys sitting in prison working out, watching TV, working menial prison jobs and going to college in jail?

They say Van der Sloot is having a fine old time in his Peruvian jail. He’s made a friend and they hang out together.

Well, nobody stepped in to save Teresa Lewis and she is no more. Guess her husband and stepson will be waiting to greet her. Or maybe not…

The paper said that Virginia has executed twice as many woman as any other state with a death penalty. Just another one of those statistics the state shouldn’t be particularly proud of.
