It’s Official: Cats Prefer Obama

By Yul

Felines everywhere are burying John McCain in the kitty litter and showing their support more than 3 to 1 for the black cat who’s regaining his lead in human polls, too – Barack Obama.

Catster has been conducting an unscientific photo poll – the only kind cats will tolerate, since we’re wary of becoming lab specimens. The numbers grow every day, but when I last checked, cats for Obama outnumbered McCain cats by 152 to 41.

It’s not surprising that even with only 41 photos visitors could easily remember, the McCain cats were blatantly trying to pad their numbers with at least 10 DUPLICATES.

In fairness, I also found some duplicates on the Obama side, but nowhere near 25%. But even if you discount those, it still shows our overwhelming preference.

Love reading your spin on politics via the feline community. My 3 kitties….are Cats for Obama as well! They are very well read cats and quite intelligent.

Deb, this blog has really energized the base around here, I’m telling you. Now that we’re Cats Working, we spend less time napping and more time paying attention to what’s going on around us. We kitties may not be able to vote (yet), but we can sure yowl. And Washington has never given us better reasons to do it.

Excellent work, Yul. Alice says that of the 12 cats of her acquaintance, every one is for Obama; they, or their humans, didn’t know how to post on Catster, though.

Alice wondered if there is a similar dog site and how that was running. Since she has canine cousins, all of whom are for Obama, she’s hoping that dogs will step up to the plate as well. She did make the observation, however, that in general, dog people don’t seem quite as smart as cat people. But she admits she’s not entirely unbiased.

There is a site called We didn’t see any political dogs on it, but we didn’t look too hard.

Fred blogged in July about dogs’ preference for McCain:

Alice is correct in her assumption that dog people aren’t as bright as cat people. Like dogs, they prefer having someone to look up to, to give them orders, to tell them how to think. Hence, their affinity for the Republican party.

It’s pathetic, but they’re just wired that way.

There are some dogs for Obama, and we’ve blogged about them, too. They are the enlightened ones who will ultimately advance the species and bring it a bit closer to the perfection already enjoyed by cats.

You must be very pleased by the latest Gallup daily poll (of course it’s a human poll, but nonetheless). Barack is up by 8 points. I can’t wait to see which of you feline pundits (purring heads, I like to call you) will blog about the vice presidential debate. Alice is afraid that Biden will be too easy on Palin, lest the sexism charges fly again. I’m hoping that she’ll continue her stupid answers even to the most softball of questions.

  6. catsworking says:

Yes, I just saw the poll numbers. As I’ve said before, I think McCain’s suspension of his campaign, failure to send Palin out there in his stead, and then performing in the debate like he was on Valium, cumulatively represented a turning point and he’s not going to bounce back this time.

His own party is turning on Palin in a big way. Kathleen Parker even quoted this nonsensical drivel from Palin in interviews, writing:

Palin filibusters. She repeats words, filling space with deadwood. Cut the verbiage and there’s not much content there. Here’s but one example of many from her interview with (Sean) Hannity: “Well, there is a danger in allowing some obsessive partisanship to get into the issue that we’re talking about today. And that’s something that John McCain, too, his track record, proving that he can work both sides of the aisle, he can surpass the partisanship that must be surpassed to deal with an issue like this.”

When (Katie) Couric pointed to polls showing that the financial crisis had boosted Obama’s numbers, Palin blustered wordily: “I’m not looking at poll numbers. What I think Americans at the end of the day are going to be able to go back and look at track records and see who’s more apt to be talking about solutions and wishing for and hoping for solutions for some opportunity to change, and who’s actually done it?”

If BS were currency, Palin could bail out Wall Street herself.

    Here’s the whole article:

Yes, we are looking forward to the VP debate, and we think Biden can crush Palin simply with facts.

  7. Jo Singer says:

Well of course! Any intelligent cat knows who’s best. After all, the Obama-Biden ticket is purrfect!

  8. daphne Kenward says:

Well I agree with Oliver of Berkley CA.

I can see why he is an Obama fan and a Democat, Oliver is smart and has taste.

  9. Every Saturday on my blog, The Boomer Muse, I have a Cat of The Week featured. I would love a CATS FOR OMAMA cat, for the next one. Please send a jpeg to

  10. Terri B says:

I just found this website. Just want to say that UK cats are all rootin’ for Obama, too! And we’re purrfectly delightred he got in! Now, when does the free catnip arrive?

  11. catsworking says:

With the state the economy is in, we don’t think there’s anything as a free ‘nip anymore. Unless you’re a banker.
