Curiosity didn’t kill Sophie the cat – it turned her into a kitty porn-buster.
In January 2008, Sophie moved into an apartment in Austin, Texas, with her owner, Amy Spencer. While Amy tried to put all her stuff away, Sophie conducted a top-to-bottom inspection of their new home, looking for suitable storage spaces.
When Sophie got to the top of the kitchen cabinets, she found 7 DVDs.
Amy popped one in to her player to see what was on it and got the shock of her life. It contained videos of girls under age 12, some as young as 5, performing sexual acts with grown men.
The DVDs were turned over to the police, tough guys who took it in stride. They said they see this type of smut all the time, even though they’re in the heart of straight-shooting, God-fearing, George W. Bush country. But they admitted these DVDs were grosser than most because some of the children were so young, and they were surprised by the sheer quantity.
They probably also wondered how anybody could be so dumb that they’d move and forget to pack their porn.
They traced the DVDs to the apartment’s former tenant, a 24-year-old man who admitted they were his. The police found more of the same on his computer. The guy’s now facing third-degree felony charges for possession of child pornography, punishable by up to 10 years behind bars and a fine of up to $10,000.
Thanks to Sophie and her willingness to climb to new heights, one more pervert is off the streets and the world’s a bit safer for little girls.
